Haygrove South Africa donated a small scale production unit tunnel to two crèche’s in the local community. The aim of the tunnels is to assist with vegetable growth to supplement the crèche’s feeding schemes. The fresh vegetables do not only ensure a nutritious meal for the young minds, but also create and interest in small scale farming and teaching the children to grow their own food at home.

Thandi Crèche is a project that is sponsored by a group from the UK that have a passion for education in poor communities, the Thandi project: www.thandi.friends.org.uk.

The other Crèche is the project of a local woman called Lettie that have identified the need within her community for a crèche. She have single handily gotten the project from the ground and managed to get sponsorships from a church organisation.

Both Crèche projects have a gardener now assigned to the tunnel for a few days a week and Haygrove have committed to ensure that these gardeners get proper training to equip them to manage the tunnels efficiently and optimally.

Haygrove is committed to supply these projects with mentorship and support to make a success of the tunnels and ensure that the children will benefit from eating fresh vegetables year round.

Haygrove’s aim is to become more involve in projects like this and is currently busy designing a product pack for similar projects, which will include a tunnel, training, fertilizer, organic fungicides, basic seed pack and farming equipment.  These product packs can then be bought by corporate companies who want to invest in social development projects or charity organisations that want to invest in a sustainable development project. Haygrove aim to create a sustainable product that will be able to be incorporated throughout Africa. This will significantly reduce poverty, mal-nutrition and food insecurities.
